Nate Amos made Box for Buddy, Box for Star under his This Is Lorelei name, writing, recording and producing the original in summer 2022. The New York artist’s pop songs can be direct and strange in equal measure, and this Super Deluxe edition turns the whole sequence into a set of new readings by friends, family and fellow musicians. It arrives on April 17, 2026, nearly two years after the original release, with the initial album followed by ten reworked versions.
The second half keeps changing shape. Power Snatch, Daniel James and Hayley Williams give “Perfect Hand” a hushed, glitchy treatment, while SASAMI turns “I’m All Fucked Up” into a sweeping ballad. Momma bring pure guitar lift to “A Song That Sings About You,” and fantasy of a broken heart pair with Jeff Tweedy on “My Boy Limbo.” Waxahatchee’s “Where’s Your Love Now” gets its long-awaited studio version, with pedal steel, keys, acoustic guitar and MJ Lenderman on drums and electric guitar. Bob and Sarah Amos add a family take on “Angel’s Eye,” while LUCY, Snail Mail and Tim Heidecker make the remaining tracks their own. A good fit for anyone drawn to left-field pop, collaborative albums and songs that can survive being pulled apart and rebuilt.
