Privacy Policy
Last updated 20 August 2026. This policy covers the Quetzal Player application and the website at quetzalplayer.com.
The short version. Quetzal has no account system and collects no analytics. Your music library, your play counts and your settings stay on your Mac. We hold your email address only if you typed it into the newsletter box yourself.
Who we are
Quetzal Player is made by LEGAL ENTITY NAME, registered in COUNTRY. You can reach us through the contact form, or by writing to POSTAL ADDRESS.
What the app collects
Nothing. The application does not create an account, does not sign you in, and sends us no usage data, crash reports or listening history. There is no “anonymous usage data” that turns out not to be anonymous.
The following stay on your computer and are never transmitted to us: your audio files; the library index built from them; play counts and listening history; playlists, favourites and ratings; settings, output-device choices and EQ curves.
When the app does reach the internet
Three cases, all of them visible to you:
Artwork and artist images. If you switch on artwork lookup, Quetzal queries MusicBrainz and Wikidata for artist pictures. Those requests carry an artist name and your IP address to those services. The feature is off until you turn it on, and it never sends anything about you personally.
Internet radio. Browsing stations queries a community-maintained directory, and playing one connects your Mac directly to that station’s stream. The directory and the station operator can see your IP address, as they can with any streaming client. We do not see which stations you play.
Purchases and updates. These go through the Mac App Store and are handled entirely by Apple.
Purchases
Pro is sold as a one-time in-app purchase through the Mac App Store. Apple is the merchant of record. Apple processes the payment and holds the record of what you bought; we never receive or store your payment details, billing address or Apple ID. Quetzal asks Apple whether this Apple ID owns the purchase, and stores nothing about the answer.
The website
quetzalplayer.com runs no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking pixels. A plain visit sets no cookies.
Fonts. Pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google carrying your IP address and user agent. We do not control what Google logs.
Contact form. What you type, plus your email address, so we can reply. Kept only as long as needed to deal with your message.
Feedback board. Feature requests and votes you post are stored with the site and are visible to other visitors.
Newsletter. Your email address, only if you enter it yourself. Every email carries an unsubscribe link, and we will not use it to nag you.
Server logs. Our host records standard request logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Because the app collects nothing, in practice this concerns only your newsletter subscription, contact messages and feedback posts. Write to us through the contact form. If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted on the site rather than made quietly.
