Tokyo Shoegazer return with eight tracks of layered guitars and measured distortion, recorded at Freedom Studio Infinity over two months and mastered at Lurssen. The band's core trio, Kiyomi Watanabe and Yoshitaka Sugahara on guitars, Hiroshi Sasabuchi on drums, anchor arrangements that pile texture on texture without tipping into chaos. Kyoko Sahara handles vocals and writes all lyrics across songs split between Watanabe's six and Sugahara's two compositions.
The production leans into the haze you'd expect but keeps the low end tight, thanks to Taizo Nakamura's bass work and Yosuke Maeda's mix. Tracks like "Wisteria" and "Haze" sit in mid-tempo territory where the reverb does most of the atmospheric work, while "The Reckoning" pushes harder without abandoning the band's preference for wash over punch. It's polished without being sterile.
This is the band's established sound refined rather than reimagined. The Japanese shoegaze scene has carved out its own approach to the form, less raw than the British template, more patient in how it builds, and Remains fits that mould. If you've followed their work since 2013 this delivers what you came for. If you haven't, it's a solid entry point that doesn't demand you know the back catalogue first.
