Three pieces of code-generated sound, each a movement in a digital haiku. Schemawound uses SuperCollider to build sparse electronic textures that follow the structure of a Bashō poem: five minutes for the first track, an even duration for the second, five minutes for the third, mirroring the 5-7-5 syllable pattern. The results are minimal and patient, with slow-moving tones and granular processing that suggest organic decay and quiet motion beneath the surface.

The work comes from a 2013 compilation on Subterranean Tide, where multiple artists each responded to a haiku with a three-track release. Schemawound’s contribution sits in the territory of algorithmic composition and process-based electroacoustic work, where the code itself becomes the score. The titles”autumnMoonlight,” “aWormDigsSilently,” “intoTheChestnut” are drawn directly from the poem’s lines, and the music follows the same arc of observation and stillness.

This is for listeners who value conceptual rigor in electronic music, who are curious about generative processes, and who can sit with long stretches of near-silence punctuated by small events. It rewards attention to detail and an appetite for work that prioritizes structure over spectacle.

Three SuperCollider pieces structured as a digital haiku, sparse and process-driven, following the syllabic form of a Bashō poem.
