With Through Zero, Elder push their heavy psychedelic rock towards a more open, progressive shape. The six tracks run on thick guitar riffs, shifting patterns and hypnotic grooves, but the arrangements leave room for synthesizer sequences and the warmer tones of Rhodes piano. Nicholas DiSalvo handles guitar, vocals and synth, while Michael Risberg brings a second guitar along with Rhodes and slide guitar. Jack Donovan’s bass keeps the low end firm, and Georg Edert’s drums give the longer passages their forward pull. It’s a big, detailed sound, but the band says this is also one of their more direct records.
Recorded in Berlin in 2025 between tours, the album comes from Elder’s long-running move beyond straightforward downtuned rock without dropping the weight that brought them here. Richard Behrens recorded it at Big Snuff Studio, then mixed it with the band, with Carl Saff handling mastering. Blues Funeral Recordings covers North America, Stickman Records handles Europe, and Birds Robe takes care of Australia. The paid release is available as MP3 320, FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV and AIFF, with LP, 2LP, CD and cassette editions too. Fans of progressive and psychedelic rock should find plenty to dig into, especially if synths and changing song structures are as welcome as a huge guitar sound.
