Kurt Travis has been making music since 2012, and Anywhere's Better gathers songs written at different points across the last seven years. That long span gives the record a sense of movement rather than a fixed formula. It draws from indie, pop, and indie rock without settling into one lane, so the tracklist can move from “Different Aura” and “Chasing Love” through “Delete The Message” and “Picture Imperfect” without needing a single defining tag. The songs hang together as a finished set rather than a scrapbook, with Ceej Burton and Mike Watts handling tracking and production.
Travis keeps the focus on his solo work, but two guests add clear points of connection. Andrés appears on “Watching You Fade”, while Andy Cizek joins “Entropy (Always Going)”, the closing track. People who like songwriting that develops across several styles, rather than sticking to a strict indie template, should find plenty to follow here. It’s a paid release from Sacramento, available in FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, and MP3 320, with vinyl and CD editions alongside shirts and other vinyl options.
