Danny George Wilson returns with Arcade, his third solo album and another release from the frontman of Danny & The Champions of the World. The album comes through his own label, with Lewes-based producer Hamish Benjamin handling production, engineering and mixing. Its starting point is the overlap between americana, alt-country, indie folk and rock, with eight songs that include “Strange Weather”, “Distant Seasons” and the title track.
There’s a larger vocal cast here than a solo billing might suggest. Gerard Love, Emma Tricca and Annie Dressner all contribute, while Benjamin also arranged the strings, recorded at Alciston & Selmeston Village Hall. Tricca’s vocal was recorded separately by Sean Read at Famous Times Studio in London. Those details point to a carefully built studio album rather than a bare singer-songwriter set, though the available tags keep its footing in guitar music. Fans of Wilson’s work with the Champs, and anyone drawn to British takes on americana and indie rock, are the obvious audience. Arcade is available as a paid release in FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC and 320 kbps MP3, alongside vinyl and CD.
