Los Angeles four-piece 16 Underground grew out of members with hardcore and punk backgrounds, then turned toward trip hop, ambient music and electronic pop. Without a Trace, released through Sunday Drive Records on August 14, 2026, is their second album and a clear move away from straightforward guitar-led writing. Photographic Memory and the band handle production, with Edward Barraza and Photographic Memory engineering the sessions.

The music runs on lo-fi trip-hop beats, deep bass and synths spread wide across the stereo field. Guitars pull toward emo and shoegaze, while keyboards sometimes take a lounge-jazz turn. Digital glitches and small samples flicker around Hannah Campbell’s soft, melodic vocals, giving tracks such as “Angel (On the Run)” and “Mystify” a late-night, slightly unreal feel. It can be hazy, but there’s enough low-end movement to keep the five songs from drifting away. Fans of dream pop, chillhop and the slower side of indie pop should find plenty here, especially if they like polished production with a few rough electronic edges. The release is available as a paid download in several lossless formats, alongside vinyl and CD editions.

16 Underground pair dream pop vocals with lo-fi trip-hop beats, wide synths, shoegaze guitars and deep bass on their second album.
