Maask's Lyonesse comes from a South London field-recording and production project active since 2015, released by Nous'klaer Audio as a paid digital and vinyl LP release. Across four tracks, Maask folds recordings gathered through sound walks and extended listening into electronic music drawing from UK house, ambient and dub techno. The field material isn't treated as a brief pause between songs. It helps shape the tracks alongside rhythm, repetition and electronic texture.
The source recordings range widely, from a storm moving through oak branches in Powys to reeds beneath a lake in Rajasthan, highland moss, thunder over Kumasi and wind passing through a neolithic burial chamber off Cornwall. Those details give Lyonesse a strong sense of place without turning it into a collection of nature recordings. The track titles, from “Selco Pigeons” to “Romantic Aggregate Pier” and “Playback Ghost Singer”, suggest the same interest in accidents, fragments and strange connections. It should appeal to anyone who likes club music with its edges left open, especially fans of patient ambient electronics, dub techno and field recording projects that let found sound become part of the composition.
