Boston’s Crippling Alcoholism has been active since 2022, and Camgirl places the band’s rock, goth and noise rock tags across a 15-track set with a deliberately crowded cast of voices. The titles move from “Mr. Sentimental” and “Saran Wrapped Cash” to “Pay Pigs”, “bedrot” and “I Have a Key to Your House”, before landing on the title track and “despair”. It’s a sharp, confrontational frame, with enough strange phrasing in the tracklist to suggest a record that isn’t interested in keeping things tidy.
The vocal credits give the album much of its shape. Allison Rittwager handles vocal arrangements and compositions on eight tracks, while Juliet Gordon contributes both composition and vocals to “LADIES’ NIGHT”, “Pretty in Pink”, “Pliers” and “TARAVISTA”. Aki McCullough appears on “Sweet Talk”, and Meredith Haines on “despair”. Luxury Skin feature across three songs, with Latter also appearing at the end. Eric Sauter recorded and mixed Camgirl at Blackheart Sound, and Dereck Blackburn mastered it at Quiethouse Recording. Anyone drawn to abrasive rock with a gothic edge, shifting vocal presence and a taste for oddball song titles will find plenty to investigate here, especially across the full-length 15-song run.
