Coloursound’s New World arrives from Melbourne/Naarm producer Will Landman, who has been active since 1991. Released by Animalia and distributed by Rotterdam’s Clone, it brings four main dancefloor tracks together with “Bluehour”, a digital-only fifth cut. The sound moves between dubstep, dub techno and bent techno, with low bass wobbles, chugging percussion and plenty of open space around the rhythms.
Dub is the anchor, but these tracks don’t stay settled for long. Spaced-out textures and damaged vocal fragments drift in and out of the grooves, giving the record a futuristic edge without losing its physical pull. It’s a paid release with a vinyl LP option, and should suit anyone drawn to bass music that can work in a club while still leaving room for strange details. The production keeps its focus on rhythm and weight rather than piling on decoration, which makes the contrast between the heavy low end and the thinner, more distant sounds especially effective.
