City of Once is W O L F C L U B's latest set of synth-led pop, released by NewRetroWave on July 31, 2026. The 12 tracks draw on 80s and 90s electronic styles, with synthwave and synthpop at the front, while the alternative tag points to a little more edge than a straightforward nostalgia exercise. There are plenty of melodic turns, and the guest appearances give the album some variety. Angie Robba appears on Stop, Indigo on There Goes the Dream, and Cadenti joins four tracks, including Pressure, Chasing Ruins, Avalanche and Speed.
WOLFCLUB have been active since 2017, and this lands squarely in the NewRetroWave retrowave scene. Steven Wilcoxson produced it, with mastering by John Kunkel. Anyone drawn to synth-heavy pop, especially the brighter and more song-focused end of the synthwave catalogue, should find a lot to like here. It is also available on cassette, CD and vinyl, which feels fitting for an album built around older electronic references.
