Sawteeth's 東風 comes from Seoul, South Korea, released by Jungle Fatigue Records as a free download. It draws from drum and bass, jungle, UK garage and happy hardcore, with eight tracks that move from “Am I A Dreamer?” through “Night Bus N75” and “Mystery Of Dub II” to the bluntly titled “Can't Stop The Bumrush!!” The track names suggest a record made for late buses, after-hours sessions and sudden bursts of energy rather than polished pop convention.
Hong produced, mixed and mastered the whole thing alone, using an Amiga 1200, Akai S950, Roland JV-1080, Alpha Juno 2, E-MU Orbit and a pair of Technics 1200s, among other older hardware. That setup gives the project a clear connection to sample-based dance music and the hands-on feel of a small studio, while the album's title and personal reason for making it point to something more reflective beneath the movement. 東風 is available in FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF and 320 kbps MP3, with a cassette edition too. Anyone drawn to fast breaks, chopped samples, dub pressure and UK club rhythms should find plenty to investigate, especially on “K1E1” and “Can We Get Connected?”
