RRThiel’s what a mario world EP turns NES, Famicom and SNES-era game sounds into a compact set of chiptune sketches with a soft, funky pulse. Made with tracker software, it leans on bright 8-bit and 16-bit tones, electronic rhythm programming and the easy glide of city pop, with enough fusion in the mix to keep the melodies from feeling like a straight nostalgia exercise. It’s playful, but not weightless. The cooler tempos give the small, sharp-edged sounds room to settle.
The tracklist follows familiar Mario-world signposts, moving from “map 1” and “overworld” through “underground,” “athletic,” “underwater,” “ghost house,” “switch palace” and “castle.” That sequence gives the EP a game-like shape without needing to pretend it’s a soundtrack. “There will never be another you” appears as a bonus, a neat change in framing after all those level names. RRThiel has been active since 2018, and this free 2024 release feels suited to anyone who likes chiptune with a little more groove, especially fans of city pop, funky electronics and old console timbres.
