Since 2017, tv room has been making music from Portland, Maine, and The Great State of Maine connects that local identity to a very specific commission. The five-song EP was made for the Attitash Multimedia Commission, an arts programme run by the Attitash Watershed Association, with Lake Attitash and its surrounding area as the subject. It’s a small, focused release rather than a sprawling statement, built around alternative pop, deskpop, electronic production and a touch of hyperpop oddness.
The tracklist gives the project an appealingly offbeat shape. “Lake Attitash” opens the set, followed by “The Little Birdwatcher”, then the more personal-sounding “You Didn’t See Me Cry”. “Take A Hike” and “Step On Bug” close things out with titles that keep the connection to the outdoors plain without turning the EP into postcard music. Five tracks is enough time to get the idea across and leave before it starts repeating itself. Fans of indie pop with digital edges, short concept releases, and artists who can turn a local brief into something personal should find plenty to enjoy here. It’s available as a paid release in MP3 320, FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV and AIFF, with T-shirts and other apparel also offered.
