Australian quartet The Dharma Chain return with their second studio album, a set built from motorik pulse, colliding guitars and the push-pull of post-punk. Amanda McGrath and Benjamin Rompotis share vocals, guitar and synthesizer duties, backed by Giulia Piras on bass and Aidan Stewart on drums. The guitars can scrape against each other before opening into shoegaze haze, while the steady rhythmic drive keeps tracks such as “Inside A New” and “Cross Over” moving forward. The lyrics turn towards love, addiction and political unease without spelling everything out, giving the songs a little room to remain unsettled.
Recorded by Jonathan Dreyfus at Funkhaus in Berlin in December 2025, Some Kind Of Pure State was produced by Dreyfus and mixed by Benjamin Rompotis, with Spinda Records handling the release. Le Cèpe, Clostridium, Echodelick and Dirty Filthy Records join the label for the vinyl edition, with LP and CD available. There’s a clear line to The Black Angels, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Spacemen 3 here, though The Dharma Chain lean harder into post-punk structure and a sharper, more controlled attack. A good fit for anyone after psych rock with a firm beat and guitars that refuse to sit still.
