Machine Girl pulls five tracks from the more rave-focused end of the hard drive on RePorpoised Phantasies. Released in 2020, it draws on breakcore, drum and bass, footwork, hardcore, juke and jungle, with the kind of club-ready momentum suggested by titles such as “Cyan Hardcore” and “The Storm.” “Merky ACE – Greaze” is a Machine Girl mix, while the remaining tracks give the release a compact, self-contained shape rather than the feel of a long-form album.
The material had been sitting around for a year or two before Machine Girl brought the mixes into release shape, making this a useful snapshot of the New York artist’s rave vocabulary. It’s aimed squarely at anyone who likes their dance music fast, abrasive and willing to jump between scenes without warning, from jungle breaks to footwork’s clipped rhythms. Machine Girl wrote, mixed and mastered everything here apart from “Waited So Long,” which was mastered by Nico Kennedy. The paid release is available as MP3 320, FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV and AIFF.
