Russelbuck’s RAVEPOP is a bright, blunt-force rush through hyperpop, happy hardcore, Jersey club, donk and rave-pop excess. The ten tracks move with punchy synthesized kicks and fat, aggressive basses, the production pushed hard enough to make titles like IN DA DOGHOUSE, EVIL MUSIC for BAD DOGS and b-b-BASS DOWN LOW feel like part of the same unruly party. There’s plenty of pop instinct in the hooks and track names, but the palette is built for impact, with electronic drums and low end doing most of the heavy lifting.
Russelbuck has been active since 2016 and is tagged to Orlando, with every track produced, mixed and mastered by the artist. Can of Bliss helped shape the sequence, polish and final selection, and the record’s own account credits making silly music together with improving its sound design. That gives the album a useful clue. RAVEPOP takes its club references seriously enough to hit hard, but not so seriously that it loses its sense of humour. Fans of hyperpop, dariacore-adjacent chaos and fast dance music should find plenty to grab onto, especially if big kicks and overfed bass are the main event. It’s available as a paid release on CD, vinyl, FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF.
