Toronto duo Modele have been making dark, layered post-punk since 1989, and Pleasure For The Holy finds Chris Huggett and Nathan Wiltshire working with a rotating cast that includes Max Hoppenbrouwers on drums and ebow, plus guest programmers. The production is clean but never polished to a shine: guitars sit forward in the mix, bass VI adds low-end weight without muddying things, and the drum programming trades rigidity for swing where the songs need it.
Tracks like "Into Your Eyes" and "Tirana" lean into gothic rock's melodic side, with sustained ebow tones and layered keys building atmosphere without drowning the vocal. "Here On The Other Side" strips back to bass, programmed beats and a single guitar line that circles rather than resolves. The writing credits spread across the band, and you hear that in the variety: some songs push the tempo, others let space do the work.
This is for people who want darkwave that still sounds like a band in a room, not a grid. The live lineup is already in place, which suggests these arrangements were written to travel. Available on vinyl and CD as well as lossless downloads.
