Late Arcane drops another one on Business Casual, and if you know the label you already have a rough idea of what this sounds like. Slick, sample-heavy, with that slightly worn VHS sheen. The drums are punchy and a bit blown out, the bass lines are the kind that make you nod your head before you realise they were lifted from some forgotten 80s pop song. Plunderphonics is the right tag here: nothing feels precious, everything feels repurposed.
Track names like "Guernica" and "Null Light" suggest a darker edge than your usual future funk fare. "Modern Affairs" the track is a highlight, all chopped vocals and a beat that refuses to settle. It is not all smooth sailing: some moments feel like they are running on fumes, and the collage approach can get messy. That is part of the charm.
