Saint Pepsi’s Laser Tag Zero is a compact, ten-track set from the fast-moving December 2012 period that helped define the artist’s early vaporwave output. Its palette moves between ambient drift, future funk momentum and the bright, retro-futurist pulse of synthwave, with experimental turns keeping the sequencing from settling into one fixed groove. The Japanese titles give the tracklist a distinct visual character, from 即時停止を押し to the closing レーザータグZERO.
The quick production window is part of the appeal. Laser Tag Zero was made over consecutive days around Christmas, alongside Triumph International and New Generation, so it feels like a snapshot of Saint Pepsi sharpening the ideas that would carry forward. There’s enough movement here for vaporwave listeners who prefer rhythm to pure haze, while the shorter, stranger passages should appeal to anyone drawn to electronic music that doesn’t stay neatly inside pop structure. My Pet Flamingo has brought this early material to vinyl for the first time through a deluxe box set, with the album also available as a paid digital release. Artwork and production come from Saint Pepsi, with Enzo Van Baelen handling additional design and J. Sabourin remastering it for vinyl.
