Extrawelt's been around for a minute, and on the Jamborghini EP they're making the kind of electro-techno hybrids that could easily tip into self-parody but don't. The four vinyl tracks thread a needle between functional club tools and something stranger, like the admin software for a cell tower that's achieved sentience. "Burned Filters" has that crisp, slightly hollow drum machine sound that feels like a clean room, while "How Much Is The Quiche?" introduces a wobbling synth line that's almost funny but not quite a joke. The digital exclusives are genuinely good too, which is rare. "Between Two Days (Vorstufen Version)" strips the original down to a skeletal groove that's more useful than most bonus tracks.
This is out on Turbo Recordings, and Extrawelt are becoming a regular presence there. The press blurb name-checks Tiga and a bunch of other DJs, which tracks with the kind of heads-down, no-nonsense techno this EP is aimed at. The title is apparently a portmanteau of "jam" and "Lamborghini," which is exactly the kind of dumb-fun energy the music needs to pull off its deadpan precision. If you liked their earlier work on Traum or Kompakt, or if you're into the more playful end of contemporary techno where the gear isn't taken quite so seriously, this is worth your time. The vinyl pressing is the real deal, but the digital files are clean too.
