FrankJavCee's I Love Hating You is a five-track alternative rock EP built from electric guitar, nylon-string guitar, electric bass and a Linn Drum Machine emulator. The setup gives it a direct, homemade feel, with the guitars carrying the weight and the programmed drums keeping the songs tied together. Its starting point was a summer spent playing along with old Nirvana songs, and that influence comes through in the grunge lean without reducing the EP to a tribute act.
FrankJavCee played, tracked, mixed and mastered everything, with Marionismagical adding guest vocals to the title track. The songs were selected and ordered so their tempos and keys connect, making the short run feel more like one piece than five unrelated sessions. Lyrically, it comes from quarantine isolation, frustration, longing and uncertainty about both private life and the wider world. There’s a rough, inward-looking quality here that should appeal to people drawn to independent guitar music, grunge, new wave and darker pop-rock. The paid release is available in FLAC 16/44 alongside several other formats.
