Horse Jumper of Love's self-titled debut is a slow, guitar-led rock album from Boston, built around Dimitri Giannopoulos's vocals and guitar, John Margaris's bass, and Jamie Vadala-Doran's drums. The nine songs have titles that move from the plainspoken "July 5th" and "DIRT" to the wonderfully unwieldy "I Want to Paint Horses… And to Have a Horse". That contrast gives the release a sense of personality before you even get to the music.
The album was recorded by Bradford Krieger and Chaimes Parker at BIG NICE studio between February and May 2015, then mixed and mastered by Krieger. Its slow pace and compact three-piece setup point toward the heavier, less polished side of indie rock, with enough room for the guitar, bass, and drums to carry the songs without extra decoration. Fans of slowcore and unhurried alternative rock should start here, especially if odd song titles and a plain band format appeal more than elaborate production. The paid release comes in FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, and 320 kbps MP3, with vinyl, cassette, and poster or print editions also offered.
