Fremantle five-piece GRUB bring together three guitars, bass, drums and a shared vocal presence on this self-titled release. The musical brief is clear from the tags, punk, rock and pub rock, with the nine-track set moving through titles such as “Stability Please”, “Shake It”, “The Floor” and “Terrorhead”. There’s no need to dress it up as anything more polished than that. This is a band built around a full electric lineup and direct song titles, with Matilda Beales on lead vocals and guitar alongside Duncan Strachan, Mitch McDonald, Eldar “Edo” Ekic and Peter Bibby, all credited with vocals in different combinations.
GRUB have been active since 2008, and the record comes from the Fremantle scene with the band handling production themselves. Dan Carroll and McDonald recorded it at Rada Studios, McDonald mixed it, and Nao Anzai mastered the final version. That makes this a natural pick for anyone after Australian punk and rough-edged rock played by a proper band rather than assembled in a laptop. The paid release is available in FLAC 16/44, alongside MP3 and other formats, with a vinyl LP for people who still want the physical version in hand.
