Fall of the Grey-Winged one, the long-running project of Belgian composer Stijn Van Cauter, builds Channelers around the electric cello as its central voice. The two main pieces, White Channeler and Black Channeler, stretch across extended durations with bowed tones that shift slowly between harmonic drones and textural scraping. The cello lines layer and overlap, creating dense clusters that hover in place rather than progressing through conventional song structures. Production choices favor reverb and spatial depth, placing the instrument in what sounds like a large empty room. The pace is glacial, with individual notes sustaining long enough to reveal their inner overtones before the next shift arrives.

Van Cauter has worked in drone and doom contexts since 2002, and Channelers sits at the intersection of those approaches with ambient music's focus on atmosphere over rhythm. The album shares common ground with the slower end of doom metal's spectrum, where riffs give way to sustained tones, and with the textural concerns of dark ambient. The use of a single acoustic instrument processed through effects places it alongside other solo drone works that blur the line between composed material and sound exploration.

Channelers appeals to listeners who value patience and immersion, those who find interest in how a single sound source can fill extended time through layering and gradual transformation. The album rewards attention to detail in tone and texture rather than melody or development.

Electric cello drones stretched across glacial durations, layered into dense harmonic clusters with spatial depth.
