Laura Les made BIG SUMMER JAMS 2018 in Chicago’s electronic, hip hop and pop orbit, then filled its six tracks with friends and collaborators. Lil West, Lewis Grant, Dylan Brady, Girls Rituals, SYBYR, scum, Yung Skrrt and others appear across the release, while Les handles all the production herself. It’s a free 2018 release with FLAC, ALAC, WAV and AIFF versions available, which makes it an easy one to try without settling for a compressed stream.
The title tells you plenty about the mood. These are bright, unruly party songs built around summer nights, romantic friction, drinks, dancing and the slightly ridiculous confidence that comes after midnight. The track names keep that loose energy going, from “PIRATE” and “hell yeah brother” to “livin my best life!” The guest-heavy setup gives the project a mixtape feel rather than a single-voice pop statement, with each feature adding another personality to Les’s production. Anyone drawn to the faster, stranger edge of pop and hip hop, especially the nightcore side of electronic music, should find something here. It’s brief, free and deliberately messy, with enough names in the credits to keep the six-track run moving.
