Oscar Mulero has been making techno since the late 90s, and his latest for Semantica Records is a double LP that stretches his sound in several directions. The title Between Two Worlds fits: some tracks are heavy, driving club techno with that tight, muscular kick drum and minimal hi-hats he's known for. But others drop into slower, more atmospheric territory. 'Lost Verses in You' and 'Beneath the Surface' drift on pads and half-speed beats, closer to ambient or electro than straight techno. The sequencing works well, alternating between the physical and the headphone.
The production is clean and precise, mastered by Carlos Koschitzky. Nothing feels rushed. Mulero lets the grooves breathe, sometimes leaving a lot of space before a new element enters. The result is an album that can work in a mix or listened to alone. For fans of his earlier work, this is a natural progression. For newcomers, it's a good entry point that shows the range of what he does. Not everything is immediate; some tracks need a few listens to reveal their subtle shifts. But that's part of the appeal.
