Sophie Allison strips back the layered production of recent Soccer Mommy records and lands somewhere closer to the bedroom recordings that started it all. Evergreen was tracked in Atlanta with Ben H. Allen III, but the approach feels deliberate and uncluttered: acoustic guitars, strings, flute where it fits. No studio gloss for its own sake.
Allison wrote these eleven songs after a personal loss, and that shows in how direct the lyrics are. There is no metaphor budget being stretched thin. The melodies move between major and minor without much fuss, and the arrangements leave space around her voice. It sounds like someone working through something rather than packaging it up neatly. If you liked the earlier Soccer Mommy material before the indie rock got bigger and shinier, this will make sense to you.
