Melbourne's Twin Beasts made Badlove as their first release under that name, cutting the ten songs over three weeks in a small shack on Phillip Island and at Grove Studios in Gosford. Burke Reid produced the sessions, then mixed them at Bronco Studios, bringing a clear connection to the rougher end of Australian rock through his work with The Drones and Gerling. All the songs are credited to the band.
The writing stays close to damaged relationships, desire, family and the land, with titles such as “Together Lonely,” “Deadbeat Blues” and “Let It Die” pointing towards the album's bleak, unsentimental view of love. Musically, it pulls pop and country into garage rock rather than smoothing out the edges, so the ten tracks feel suited to anyone who likes their hooks bruised and their romance a little ugly. The sessions came from long nights and personal breakdowns, and that pressure is part of the record's character. Badlove is available as a free download in FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV, AIFF and MP3 320, with vinyl and CD editions also offered.
