IZCO’s POWERSCROFT is a debut solo album built from the East London producer and DJ’s long view of UK dance music. Jungle, broken beat, grime, garage, soul and dub all feed into it, with the tracks aimed at the dancefloor but tied to the road where he grew up. The result should appeal to anyone who likes club music with a clear sense of place, especially when it keeps one foot in grime’s vocal-led tradition and another in garage’s rhythmic pull.
The guest list gives the album plenty of different voices. Reek0 appears three times, alongside S.I, P Wavey, Osquello, Camille Munn, PK and Liam Bailey, while “Strike a Pose” offers the clearest early look at the project through Munn’s vocals. “Tek Control” links back to the EP that began IZCO’s solo run, and the tracklist moves between vocal cuts and titles such as “Bluebell”, “Komodo” and “Wonderluv”. His background matters here. Before the Rinse FM show, the Brighter Days Family and production work with PinkPantheress, Katy B and Greentea Peng, he was making grime beats for local rappers including Capo Lee, Novelist and Reek0. Brownswood Recordings releases it on 1 May, with a vinyl LP available alongside the paid digital editions.
