Dancing On The Wall finds MUNA pushing their pop towards a darker, more nervous edge. The Los Angeles setting matters here, with political strain, environmental decline and financial uncertainty pressing in around songs about desire, intimacy and the awkward work of staying connected. The production keeps the scale big and the writing close to the skin, moving between bright electronic pop and moments where the beat leaves more room for doubt. “Wannabeher” turns attraction into a rush of fantasy, while “Why Do I Get A Good Feeling” holds onto a brief flash of happiness instead of pretending it can last.

Naomi McPherson led much of the production, and Phoebe Bridgers handled A&R, giving the album a clear sense of trust and control without sanding down its rougher feelings. The closing “Buzzkiller” is especially uneasy, looking past getting what you wanted to the questions that arrive afterwards. Fans of MUNA’s self-titled album and “Silk Chiffon” will recognise the appetite for big hooks, but this is less carefree, more watchful and occasionally sharper in the teeth. It should suit anyone after polished pop that can carry a little social pressure without turning into a lecture. The paid release is available in FLAC 16/44 alongside several other formats.

MUNA turn Los Angeles anxiety, desire and fleeting joy into darker, hook-heavy alternative pop on Dancing On The Wall.
