Indianapolis band Wishy make compact, bright guitar pop on Planet Popstar, with the six tracks moving between dream pop haze, shoegaze blur and the clean hooks of power pop. “Fly” and “Over and Over” suggest the immediate side of the group, while “Portal” and “Slide” point toward something softer and more spacious. The tracklist is short enough to feel like a quick hit, but the mix of sweetness and fuzz gives it more shape than a simple pop-rock sprint.
Wishy have only been active since 2023, and this April 2025 release has the feel of a young band setting out its colours clearly. Ben Lumsdaine and Kevin Krauter produced it, with Lumsdaine also engineering and mixing, and Greg Obis handling mastering at Chicago Mastering. Kevin Krauter made the artwork. Anyone drawn to indie pop that keeps one foot in distortion, or to the melodic end of shoegaze, should find plenty to like here. Planet Popstar is available as a paid download in lossless formats, alongside vinyl, CD and cassette editions.
