your arms are my cocoon's self-titled release is a six-song burst of lo-fi bedroom pop, emo and screamo, recorded in a bedroom and sometimes a car between March 2019 and August 2020. The songs came together while the artist was living in Katy, Texas, with the source tags also pointing toward Houston and Chicago. There is a clear pull between sweetness and abrasion here. Pop instincts sit beside skramz urgency, while the homemade recording approach keeps the edges close and unpolished rather than smoothing them away.
The titles tell you plenty about the album's sense of humour and emotional range. “foster nosferatu” and “clifford the big red stab wound” sound playful, while “in october of 2019 i called a suicide hotline for the first time in my life” brings a much heavier subject into the room. “illinois//alberta,” “metamorphosis” and “snowy!” complete a brief set that feels personal without giving up its oddness. Anyone drawn to scrappy emo, bedroom recordings and screamo with a pop streak should find a lot to hold onto here. It's a free release, with FLAC 16/44, ALAC, WAV and AIFF available alongside MP3 320, plus a CD edition.
