Select All's Eaves is a Melbourne record that sounds like someone tried to tune a grunge band to a shoegaze station and the nu-metal frequencies bled through anyway. The guitars are thick and the vocals sit right on top of the mix, not buried in reverb. 'How My Day Would Go' opens with a riff that could be a lost B-side from a late-nineties rock radio playlist. 'Galeka' brings in Gemini for a feature that shifts the energy toward something darker, almost industrial. The rhythm section on 'Paraphernalia' locks into a groove that keeps the whole thing from floating off. It is not subtle. The production is dry and direct, which works for the material. This is for people who still buy CDs and want to hear a band that sounds like it shares a practice space with Helmet and Hum. The artwork by Ruby Palmer and Karina Walsh matches the music: bold, a bit messy, memorable.
