One Big Particular Loop is Polyenso's debut, a sprawling double LP that came out in 2013. The band formed from the ashes of Oceana and brought in producer Matt Goldman to help shape their sound. They funded the whole thing through Kickstarter, which shows in the ambition. The music jumps from indie pop melodies to progressive rock structures, with electronic textures and experimental detours. Piano sits next to glitchy beats. Songs like "Dog Radio" and "Falling In Rain" shift tempos and moods without warning.
It is not a tidy listen. The production is clean but the arrangements are dense, sometimes overwhelming. That is part of the appeal. If you like bands that push indie rock into weird territory, or if you appreciate the kind of studio craft that Matt Goldman brings, this one is worth the time. The vinyl pressing is a nice bonus. Just do not expect easy hooks.
